Our Mission

The Global Food and Drink Initiative (GFDI) is a 501c3 nonprofit with a mission to use the power of storytelling to preserve food and drink histories, cultures and languages of the African diaspora.

Our mission is carried out through our work which includes publishing Cuisine Noir Magazine (digital and print) and producing the podcast Diaspora Food Stories in multiple languages, in tandem with our advocacy efforts through networking, programs and speaking engagements.


To be an invaluable storyteller as well as an information, education and health and well-being resource to communities globally.


To support and service a community of entrepreneurs and small business owners through the sharing of resources and information as well as curated business and life skills programs and initiatives.


To create, facilitate and nurture diverse and inclusive opportunities in the food, drink and travel industries for persons of African descent.
