What We Do

The Global Food and Drink Initiative is more than a multimedia storyteller.  We’re also taking our passion for telling stories off the pages of Cuisine Noir Magazine as well as our blog, The Culinary Scoop, and creating a space and opportunities to expand our work in food, drink and travel.

From educational resources and programs, engaging events and more, GFDI is about empowering individuals, building strong, vibrant communities and supporting creative and driven small businesses.

Telling Stories That Change the Narrative

The digital and print publishing of Cuisine Noir Magazine is where it all began and will continue to be our main media vehicle for amplifying voices of the African diaspora.

Since 2009, we’ve been unapologetic about putting the spotlight on the history and culture of Blacks in food, drink and travel globally, providing a much-needed narrative in the food media space.

Servicing a Global Community

Our greatest support comes from a community of individuals who are consumers of global foods and drinks and lovers of travel and adventure.

We’re here to make sure they stayed informed about programs, people and organizations, events and opportunities to enhance their lifestyles.

Supporting Small Businesses

For more than 11 years, we’ve championed the stories of Black entrepreneurs and small business owners in food, drink and travel.  We’ve celebrated their contributions and successes and have also heard and seen their challenges and sacrifices for following their dreams.

Through business networking, programs and initiatives with experts and partners, GFDI will do its part to ensure anyone pursuing their dream has the information, know-how tools and resources and support to do so.

Advocating For Diversity and Inclusion

The lack of inclusion of Black chefs featured in mainstream food publications inspired the birth of Cuisine Noir Magazine. Over the years, our stories have created awareness, connection and the importance of ensuring diverse voices are heard and seen as well as reflect the world we live in.

Our work continues by partnering with organizations, foundations, businesses and corporations that are taking action to make the food, drink and travel industries more inclusive for people of color.

Inspiring the Next Generation

At GFDI, nurturing the next generation of diverse storytellers is important.

Through curated programs and initiatives, we’ll work with students and individuals who also have a passion for sharing food, drink and travel narratives of the African diaspora whether on paper, through photos or on camera.

Preserving History and Culture

The heart of what we do at GFDI is about making sure generations that come behind us know the stories, the people and the greatness of where they came from.

Through our preservations projects, we’ll introduce creative ways for individuals and families to capture and share cherished recipes, traditions and more.
