Diaspora Food Stories

Listen to the Latest Podcasts

Storytelling through a great conversation is more than powerful; it is transformative. Since July 2022, our Diaspora Food Stories podcast has captured stories that celebrate Black food culture in communities throughout the African diaspora.

Released twice monthly, Diaspora Food Stories gives listeners a global look into the lives of today’s Black chefs, food entrepreneurs, winemakers, celebrity foodies and more through the lens of the Black food culture that shapes their identities and parts of who they are today.

The podcast is available on streaming platforms such as Hayti, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon/Audible and iHeart Radio, in addition, most episodes can be viewed on our YouTube channel.

In addition, Diaspora Food Stories is currently the only Black food podcast to offer select guest episodes in additional languages such as Spanish, Portuguese and French, allowing for a deeper connection within the African diaspora to the importance of Black food culture in their work.

Building Global Connections Through Black Food Culture

Diaspora Food Stories is more than a podcast.  It’s a podcast on a mission to unite the African diaspora through the shared Black food culture inherited more than 400 years ago from ancestral cooking traditions and techniques to ingredients and dishes that have traveled from continent and continent and community and community.

The podcast is also our way of celebrating Black chefs and preserving Black food culture and Black food history in a safe place so that they remain not only visible but accessible to everyone and all future generations.

Listen to stories from Iris Rideau, America’s first Black woman to own a winery and celebrity chef Tiffany Derry’s journey back to her Southern roots to Liseth Martinez who is working to legalize the production of the drink viche in Colombia and Bashir Munye, a Somali chef and advocate in Toronto decolonizing Black foodways.

Diaspora Food Stories also complements the storytelling that Cuisine Noir began in 2009, making it a great way to hear firsthand how impactful food truly is.
